At the height of their success, Black Dog, a 1970s electric folk band, invited journalists to an infamous publicity stunt: the burning of a million pounds. The stunt backfired, the band split up and the value of their final album increased tenfold. Tinkler hires the Vinyl Detective to hunt a copy down. They discover the glowing embers from the fire of the band's demise - a motive for murder.
