Sugar beet is one of the most important industrial plants in the world. It supplies about a quarter of the worlds sugar demand. Sugar beet ranks eighth in global food and agricultural commodities production with about 270 million tons in 2012. Sugar beet is originated from Asia and it is usually grown under rain fed conditions. Iran was 14th in the world ranking of sugar beet producers in 2013 with a production volume of about 4.2 million tons.
