Snehamoy Datta (1894-1955) belongs to the 'Golden era of Indian Physics', that spanned the first three decades of the 20th century. During this period, M.N. Saha discovered the Saha ionisation equation, S.N. Bose gave the Bose-Einstein statistics, and C.V. Raman discovered the effect named after him. Snehamoy Datta was their contemporary. In the 1920s, he worked with Lord Rayleigh, Alfred Fowler and James Franck in Europe.

S. Datta was one of the founders of absorption spectroscopy in India. He was a writer, educationist and a physicist. The present book gives detail review of his scientific work and its reception by the scientific community.
