This book includes essays on Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Herman Melville, and Graham Swift. As the subtitle suggests, these essays focus on Global South. The author were originally interested in U. S. Southern Literature, as the essay on Graham Swift shows. However, the author's stay as a "stranger" in Mississippi extended his research area from narrow U. S. South to large Global South. This book is a sort of record of this local and global trajectory.
