Emil Nolde is considered one of the most important Expressionist painters. The catalogue displays central works, including landscapes, seas, portraits, scenes from Berlin and religious subjects. The immense late work of "unpainted pictures", which he created in secret, constitutes one of the focal points: more than 1300 small-format watercolours and gouaches with freely invented, often fantastical representations.
