The second volume of the trilogy on the First World War is dedicated to the European States except Germany, which were involved in the Great War and were affected by the consequences. It deals with Belgium, the Baltic States and Poland, in particular Austria-Hungary and the peace treaties of Saint Germain and Trianon. Many areas with German population were separated from Austria. Hungary lost about two-thirds of its territory. Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia emerged.
