The volume deals with the "Harmonious Society", the new ideological concept of the party leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, in order to accelerate China's transformation and consolidate its own rule. Harmonization from above combines Confucian lines of tradition with communist ideological building blocks. The author presents development scenarios for China, ranging from harmonization with increases in freedom to the forced harmonization of a surveillance dictatorship.
