40 biographies describe the lives and works of outstanding master builders, architects, civil engineers, garden and landscape architects from the 17th to the 20th centuries who had a lasting influence on Berlin's cityscape. Topics are for instance the role of civil engineering and planning after the Second World War that shaped the separate urban and architectural development of the divided city and have characterised the physiognomy of reunited Berlin to this day to a considerable extent.
